If you’re reading this, I’m assuming you’re like everyone else in the world:
You’ve experienced problems and had to overcome them.
This is a natural part of life, right?
But there is a way to approach problems that give you the ability to overcome them much more easily.
Coming up with a solution to our problems can be done by looking at a few different key areas of development, laid out in a sacred text by Buddha called the Sabb?sava Sutta.
Here are the basics you need to know.
You’d have to live in a box to not acknowledge the fact that we’re consuming too much in this world- and we’re all suffering from it.
There’s something to be said about ‘everything in moderation,’ because it’s a very wise statement.
Consuming too much leads to lethargy and selfishness. But consuming too little can keep us stuck behind barriers.
Learning how to recognize your poor consumption habits will help you triumph during times of spiritual, emotional, mental and physical illness.
2) Persistence & Patience
So many people look for instant gratification. It seems like our entire culture is built upon that ideal.
But that’s not how the world really works!
So, set big goals that you can work toward because if everything came to you immediately, you’d have nothing to look forward to. Be patient and persistent in your pursuits and you will find success.
3) Replacing Bad Habits
If you find yourself struggling to stay disciplined, like with an addiction or maybe a new commitment to exercising and eating healthy, the urge to quit or resume old behaviors can be quite strong.
It will be easier to stay disciplined by replacing a bad ritual with a good one. Always be looking for healthy habits to replace your old ones with.
In the eastern traditions, it’s considered very important not to suppress bad habits, but gradually replace them.
This is actually confirmed by modern scientific studies.
Studies show when you suppress habits, they tend to create negative obsessions with the subject you’re suppressing.
4) Insight and Understanding
The information age definitely has its benefits! Think about it: you have the world’s knowledge at your fingertips.
Buddha would’ve been delighted with this power. After all, knowledge and insight were the cornerstones of his teachings.
Use it to overcome obstacles in your path.
Whether it’s to learn a new skill, educate yourself on important issues, or simply to connect with old friends, take advantage of this highly valuable tool.
5) Skillful Avoidance
Undoubtedly, there will be times when you have to deal with a certain amount of negativity.
And sure, part of being in the world means dealing with those situations, but sometimes there is a lot to said for skillfully avoiding them.
If a person speaks badly of you, avoid them. If you’re trying to lose weight, but your friends want to eat junk food, remain vigilant with your goals and values.
It can do a lot to change your life!
